About Me – Yoga Teacher & Author

Pragya Bhatt - yoga teacher, specialising in prenatal and postpartum yoga.

Pragya Bhatt – Yoga Teacher (Iyengar Yoga, Prenatal, Postpartum) & Author

My name is Pragya Bhatt. I’m an experienced yoga and Vedanta teacher and author of two books exploring the deeper dimensions of yoga.

I’ve been practicing yoga regularly since 2009. I began with dabbling in Power Yoga, but my journey unexpectedly deepened when I discovered the Iyengar style of yoga—a system I’ve remained faithful to for over a decade. This interest in yoga has also led to a lifelong interest in holistic wellness.

My Yoga Journey

In a time that now feels like it was centuries ago, I worked in the corporate world. I completed a B.Tech in Computer Engineering, went on to work as a Software Engineer with Infosys Technologies, and later led the Mobilisation Team at Accenture Pvt. Ltd. After eight years in that space, I finally hung up my business suit and committed myself to the path of yoga.

My formal education in yoga began with a Yoga Instructors’ Certification from SVYASA (Swami Vivekananda Yoga Anusadhana Samsthana) in 2012. In 2022, I completed an MSc in Yoga. Along the way, my practice continued to deepen under the guidance of teachers, predominantly in the Iyengar lineage. My teaching today is strongly shaped by this alignment-based approach.

What I Teach: Yoga(Prenatal/Postpartum) & Vedanta Philosophy

I teach online yoga and Vedanta classes—both group and private sessions. My classes are rooted in traditional knowledge and adapted for modern needs. I also conduct international trainings and retreats, and share some of my recorded classes on YouTube.

In 2020, I was chosen by Smt. Subhadra Devi, a Vedanta guru, to study Vedanta in the traditional guru-shishya format. With her blessings, I began teaching Vedanta in 2023, sharing the timeless wisdom of the Upanishads and Gita with students across the world.

My teaching also extends to prenatal and postnatal yoga. In 2023 I became pregnant for the first time and delivered a healthy baby girl in March 2024.  My difficult conception journey followed by a healthy pregnancy and postpartum experience have shown me the need and importance of yoga for women.  It also inspired me to go deeper into women’s health and develop focused yoga classes for the pregnancy journey. This firsthand experience inspired me to delve deeper into women’s health and develop specialised yoga classes tailored for the pregnancy journey, highlighting yoga’s immense power in supporting fertility, pregnancy, and postpartum recovery.

My Published Books

I’m the author of two books:

Both books are deeply rooted in my love for storytelling, symbolism, and the philosophical dimensions of yoga. I continue to write, teach, and create content to make yoga and its wisdom accessible and meaningful.

Life Now (and What’s Next)

I currently live in Bangalore with my husband, Animesh Jain, and our daughter.

I remain committed to my personal practice and continue to deepen my practice under the guidance of noted teachers. I also share insights from my postpartum journey, temple visits, travels, and even book reviews on my blog, offering a personal glimpse into my life and experiences on my blog.

Vrikshasana.

I was born in New Delhi and grew up around the world with my parents who were in the Indian Foreign Service.  A quintessential third-culture kid (TCK), I grew up with an appreciation for cultures, languages and travel.  I have a special interest in history and culture, and this has taken me to various temples in India. I frequently blog about my travels. In pic: Vrikshasana at the Chennakeshwara Temple, Belur.
