If I Could Give One Gift

December 7, 2019

If I could give one gift…

It would be keys

to a girl.

For her to drive

her own destiny.

Because ladki hai, yeh lakdiyon ke kaam nahin hain

aakhir hai to ladki

even as she pays for your so(i)ns

with smothered thoughts and burnt limbs

and your boys who will always be (your) boys

and so shall inherit your entire earth

and now

our girls are coming home no more.

Very powerful words, Pragya! I couldn’t agree more. It does make one’s blood boil to see the recent happenings. One wonders when this will eventually stop!

That is a powerful poem. The recent happenings in our country are so horrifying. I just hope that things will get better.

That is a powerful set of words Pragya! In the times that we live in, this is very apt too. It is such a fearful thought.

Oh yes! I wish we could wish away all the violence and patriarchal behaviour that women are subjected to.

This is such a nice thought. A gift to open acceptance for a girl as she is and let her what she wants to do.

What a powerful poem, Pragya! It is so sad that in these days when women are supposed to be empowered, we are still nothing but commodities for men, to be used and trashed as they like.

Yes, the only thing we can do is stand up for ourselves and other women every single time we can.
